Welcome to Parvati Nivas

Ananya was my favourite character in Parvati Nivas. What I liked about her was that her strength isn’t presented in an obvious or dramatic way. There is a lot going on beneath her conversations and reactions, and I found myself understanding her differently as the story unfolded. She feels genuine, complex and very human. A beautifully written character.

Parvati Nivas surprised me with how naturally it blends everyday life with deeper emotions. The story doesn’t feel like it’s trying too hard to make you emotional; instead, the feelings emerge through the characters and their conversations. By the end, I found myself thinking about my own relationships and the people who have quietly shaped my life.

Manav is a character I found myself thinking about even after finishing the book. There is something understated about him as he doesn’t always need to say what he’s feeling, and that made him feel particularly real to me. I enjoyed watching the different sides of his personality come through as the story progressed. He is probably the character I connected with the most.

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect when I started Parvati Nivas, but it slowly pulled me into its world. What stood out to me was how the characters are allowed to simply be themselves. There is warmth, vulnerability and a sense of familiarity throughout the story. It feels personal without becoming overly sentimental. A surprisingly moving read.

Some books are enjoyable while you’re reading them and then disappear from your mind. Parvati Nivas wasn’t like that for me. Certain scenes and character interactions kept coming back to me afterwards, especially the way the story deals with connection, attachment and memories. It’s a gentle book, but there is more emotional depth to it than I initially expected. A lovely first novel.
